Tarantino has never been one to shy away from macabre subject content.

The director has reportedly already written his next project, which he also plans to direct, which will focus on the Manson family murders.

Charles Manson, an unemployed convict and failed musician, led a murderous cult. The most infamous tragedy the group are associated with occurred on August 6th 1969 when a number of them were ordered to attack the inhabitants of a house in Los Angeles, which Manson believed was owned by a record producer who earlier had rejected him. There were five victims.

Manson and select members of his cult were sentenced to life imprisonment in 1971 for these and several other murders committed in the summer of ’69.

Knowing Tarantino, there could be a variety of approaches here, though a narrative that consists of separate, intertwining stories like Pulp Fiction seems likely. Á la Inglourious Basterds, it’s also possible that some liberties could be taken in relation to historical specificities.

According to reports, one strand of the plot will focus on perhaps the most famous victim of the incident, Sharon Tate, who was eight months pregnant at the time and Roman Polanski’s wife.

Tarantino is looking to line up some big stars for the film. According to Hollywood Reporter, Brad Pitt, who starred in Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, and Jennifer Lawrence have been approached.

The film would mark the director’s ninth feature. The plan is to shoot in 2018, possibly in the summer.
