The complete and utter s**tshow that occurred last year will be as memorable as the likes of Sacheen Littlefeather rejecting Marlon Brando's Oscars and David Letterman's nuclear fallout from hosting - but it'll never happen again, if PwC has anything to say about.

In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, PwC chairman Tim Ryan said that there are new rules governing what happens with the handover of winner envelopes on the night - and what's more, he's going to be personally involved to ensure its smooth running. "One of the most disappointing things to me was all the great work that had been done, not only last year but over the last 83 years, around accuracy, confidentiality integrity of that process... (and) where we got it wrong was on the handing over of the envelope," said Ryan.

According to Ryan, the new rules including a third balloting partner from PwC who'll sit in the producer's control room with a complete list of the winners committed to memory, a much more rigorous confirmation procedure with the stage manager and celebrity host to ensure they've got the right envelope, and - most pointedly - the people involved with last year's cock-up have been replaced.

"My nature, just as a person, is healthy paranoia. But I also know in my head that we haven't left any step undone. We owe that to the academy," said Ryan.

Imagine it happened again. IMAGINE. Nominations for this year's Academy Awards will be announced at 1.22PM and we'll have a full round-up of them as well as analysis and predictions during the day.
