Although we've talked before about potential candidates, it looks like the three-man shortlist reported on by Deadline earlier this week is accurate.

The report states that Yann Demange, David Mackenzie and Denis Villeneuve are the three top choices to take on Bond, with Deadline reporting that all three have had meetings with Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. On top of all that, another report - this time by the New York Times - seems to confirm what we've known for some time, namely that Daniel Craig is signed on for another film and he's getting a fat paycheque to ease his woes.

So, to the directors - although our top choice, one Christopher Nolan, isn't in the running, the three stated in Deadline's report are excellent choices.

Yann Demange's '71 was a fantastic survival thriller set in Belfast with a stunning performance by Jack O'Connell, and definitely marked Demange out as a talent to watch.

David Mackenzie, meanwhile, directed the film of 2016 - the neo-Western-heist-thriller Hell Or High Water - and featured Chris Pine's best on-screen acting since The Princess Diaries 2.

Denis Villeneuve, meanwhile, is working on Blade Runner 2049, previously directed Sicario, and he's in demand everywhere.
