There's now a number of criminal investigations pending against Harvey Weinstein for alleged sexual crimes, but at least two of these are now confirmed to be moving to the next stage of the process.
Variety reports that the police department of Beverly Hills, California has sent two cases involving Harvey Weinstein to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office for review. The DA will then determine if there's a winnable case and if so, file charges against Weinstein. For his part, Weinstein has denied all charges of non-consensual sexual contact against him.
In a statement given to Variety, the Los Angeles Police Department's spokesperson, Lt. Elisabeth Albanese, confirmed the news and said that they are "not releasing any details about the cases until the D.A. has reviewed it and made a conclusion on whether they’re filing charges."
This all comes on the same day a number of well-known actresses - including Eva Longoria, Reese Witherspoon and America Ferrera - launched Time's Up, a new activist movement that will provide a legal defense fund for less well-advantaged women to file sexual harassment charge and will fight for legislation to penalise companies that "tolerate persistent harassment, and to discourage the use of nondisclosure agreements to silence victims."
