The prison break drama is being given a face lift by director Michael Noer.

The original movie, released in 1973, starred Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman and told the story of French writer Henri ‘Papillion’ Charriere and his unlikely escape from a penal colony in French Guiana.

Charriere, played by Hunnam, then meets wealthy inmate Louis Dega (Malek) who agrees to fund his escape attempt in return for protection from fellow inmates.

Ian Beattie, Tommy Flangan and Ireland’s own Eve Hewson make up the cast. The movie will premiere on the opening night of next month’s Toronto International Film Festival.
