Peter Dinklage, best-known as Tyrion Lannister in the series ‘Game of Thrones’, is lining up some new projects now that the show is coming to an end. The actor is now attached to star in a movie based on the fairy tale character of Rumpelstiltskin.
It is early days for the Sony project, as it is still in development, but it has been revealed that Patrick Ness is writing the script for it. Ness would be best-known as the author of bestsellers like ‘Chaos Walking’ and ‘A Monster Calls,’ both of which he adapted for the screen.
He’ll be penning the script with Karen Rosenfelt.
The studio has not yet announced how the film will tackle the classic story. In the original Brothers Grimm version, a miller falsely tells the king that his daughter can spin straw into gold. The king calls for the girl, shuts her in a tower room filled with straw and a spinning wheel, and demands she spin the straw into gold by morning or he will cut off her head.
The girl feels hopeless until an imp-like creature called Rumpelstiltskin appears in the room and spins the straw into gold in return for her necklace. However, his motives are not pure and the girl loses more than she expected.
Dinklage, who will also produce the feature, was most recently seen on the big screen in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri.’ He also has the film ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ due for a release, and will be vying for an Emmy after receiving a nomination at this year’s awards, in September. It is his seventh nomination for the role, making Dinklage the most nominated actor for playing the same character.
Sources say that while the film won’t be Dinklage’s next project after ‘GOT’ ends, it is a priority for the actor and studio.
