We've been big fans of Duncan Jones' work all the way back to Moon, his thoughtful sci-fi drama that he made for spare change and looked better than most films of its kind.

His follow-up, Source Code, was another thoughtful one, this time veering into thriller territory and harking back to the likes of Quantum Leap. It even had a cameo from Scott Bakula, don't you know.

Anyway, since then, Jones has been hurriedly working on Warcraft, our last, best hope for a decent videogame adaptation movie and if the early word is to be believed, Warcraft is going to become a huge franchise that Jones will be working on for the forseeable future.

However, between Source Code and Warcraft, Jones has been beavering away on Mute; his homage to the work of early Ridley Scott. Think Blade Runner, but made now. EXACTLY.

The film is now finally slated for production and what's more, he's got quite the cast going along with him. Paul Rudd, hot on the heels of Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War, will be joining True Blood's Alexander Skasgard for what Jones is calling a film "unlike any other science fiction being made today."

""I’ve been working towards making Mute for 12 years now. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that we’re finally going to shoot this utterly unique film," explained Jones in a recent interview. Set 40 years in a futuristic Berlin, Skasgard plays a mute bartender who's searching for clues to find his lost loved one and happens upon a pair of American surgeons.

It's the same kind of thoughtful, mind-bending stuff that Scott did in Blade Runner, Alien mixed with the impressive visuals that Jones is able to create on a tiny budget. What's more, he's going to be way more creative now that he's free of a big budget like Warcraft.

Mute is expected some time in the next year or two whilst Warcraft is scheduled for June 10, 2016. The first trailer for Warcraft lands online this Friday.
