We thought X-Men: The Last Stand would be the last we'd see of Patrick Stewart in the X-Men franchise (and in fairness nobody would blame him considering how the movie turned out) but he returned triumphantly in Days of Future Past and he's set to make one more appearance in Wolverine 3.

Hugh Jackman has already stated that it will be the last time he'll play Wolverine and now Stewart is hinting that he intends to retire from the mutant franchise after this final hurrah.

“I would imagine this is probably the end of this franchise for me,” he told ITV News

However he was quick to add: “The thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say 'it's the end, it's over'.”

This will be the seventh time Stewart has played the role of Charles Xavier and according to the film's director, James Mangold we can expect something different this time around.

He teased: “we will [see] a very different Charles Xavier. Nothing like the Charles Xavier you’ve seen in the past."
