Actress Joan Fontaine, best known for her roles in Alfred Hitchcock's Suspicion and Rebecca, has passed away at age 96.

Fontaine passed away at her home in California of natural causes. The actress was best known for her work with Hitchcock. Her role in Suspicion saw her win an Oscar for Best Actress in 1942, competing against her sister Olivia de Havilland, who was also up for the award. The actress was nominated for three Oscars in her lifetime, Rebecca saw Fontaine get her first Oscar nomination. The actress starred in 30 movies including The Constant Nymph, Gunga Din and Letter from an Unknown Woman.

In her later years Fontaine worked more in television starring in Wagon Train and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. She also won a Daytime Emmy Award for her role in soap opera Ryan's Hope.
