This weekend saw a flurry of news come from Disney's annual D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.

As well as dropping the first cast photo from Star Wars: Rogue One, we also learned a good deal more about Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Or the fifth Pirates movie, basically.

Orlando Bloom made an exit from the series following At World's End, the third entry, and effectively rounded off the trilogy with a decent performance as Will Turner. The disappointing On Stranger Tides was noted for its absence of Bloom / Will Turner and the fact that, well, it didn't make a lick of sense.

This time around, however, things are looking up. As mentioned, Bloom is back and Norwegian directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, who did 2012's fantastic Kon-Tiki, are at the helm. The villain, this time out, will be played by Javier Bardem who plays the terrifying Captain Salazar, recently released from the Bermuda Triangle and bent on vengeance against all pirates.

Fans of the series will know that it isn't a Pirates film without trailing after something and, sure enough, this time it's the Trident of Poseidon - said to sink any ship imaginable.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 lands in Irish cinemas some time in 2017.
