The Han Solo spin-off is getting a revamp from director Ron Howard at the mo and meanwhile, another spin-off movie to the Star Wars franchise has been announced.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the project is at a very early stage but a three-time Oscar-nominated director is already in negotiations to helm an Obi Wan Kenobi spin-off movie.

Stephen Daldry has directed the likes of Billy Elliot, The Hours, The Reader and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. He also is an exec producer on The Crown and directed some episodes of the hit Netflix series. If early talks go well and he joins the film, Daldry will develop from script level (as the script has yet to be written) with Lucasfilm.

It’s not clear yet what direction the screenplay will take but it’ll likely be an origins story, taking place before Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Other spin-off movies from the Star Wars universe that are rumoured to be in the works centre on Yoda and bounty hunter Boba Fett.

Alec Guinness played Obi-Wan in A New Hope with Ewan McGregor taking on the role for three Star Wars movies. McGregor has expressed interest in taking up the role again in the past so watch this space.
