Nicholas Hoult is well on his way to joining the A-list of Hollywood and today has been announced as the lead in an upcoming biopic of famous 'The Catcher in the Rye' author J.D. Salinger.

'Rebel in the Rye' will tell the story of the birth of the famous novel as well as exploring the life of the famously reclusive author, focusing on his 'rebellious early days' and time as a soldier in World War II as well as his struggles to get published and his own writer's block, based on the account given by Salinger biographer Kenneth Slawenski in his book 'J.D. Salinger: A Life'.

"'The Catcher in the Rye’ is a classic coming-of-age story which continues to make a significant impression six generations later," said Alex Walton of Bloom Media. "The world has long been fascinated with J.D. Salinger, whom the talented Nicholas Hoult will bring to life in this enigmatic role."

Hoult, who was most recently in 'Mad Max: Fury Road', will next be seen in 'Kill Your Friends'. 'Rebel in the Rye' will be directed by Danny Strong, creator of the TV show 'Empire', from his own screenplay.
