New Moon Has Huge Opening Weekend

23 November 2009

New Moon broke some records at the box-office this passing weekend. Taking the biggest ever opening day, after the biggest ever series of midnight showings, its domestic weekend haul came in at a staggering $140.7 million. That's the third biggest opening weekend of all time behind Spiderman 2 and The Dark Knight. When you take into account that New Moon's budget is less than half of both those blockbusters, that's a serious amount of profit for the studio, Summit Entertainment. Worldwide it also impressed hugely, pulling in a further $118.1 million to take its three day total gross to $269 million. The next instalment Eclipse will be released this coming summer, while Breaking Dawn will follow a year or so later.
