The Academy award winning actress will be taking on the iconic heroine that Angelina Jolie first brought to the big screen.

Vikander spoke to Hitflix about the upcoming film, confirming that it will be an origins story where ‘a young and untested Croft fight[s] to survive her first adventure.’

Fans of the Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider reboot should be delighted as the film will be based on the 2013 game.

The actress expressed her hopes for the audience getting to know the character from the beginning.

She said: ‘You get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara hopefully in an in-depth way. So I hope that doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that'll stand on its own two legs.’

The Danish Girl star also revealed that she played the games as a child, which should help her bring the badass female to life. She admitted: ‘I, with the rest of the world, was excited to see a female protagonist in a video game. I was a bit scared playing it when I was 12, 13. I had to go take little breaks.’

The Crystal Dynamics reboot was beloved by gamers and critics alike upon its release, so we have high hopes so far.
