The iconic Spider-Man villain is finally getting his own standalone movie and some serious talent is attached to the project.
Per Variety, four-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams is in talks to star opposite Tom Hardy in Sony's 'Venom', the first Spider-Man adjacent film in Sony's 'Marvel Universe' (not to be confused with the 'Marvel Cinematic Universe' over at Disney/Marvel Studios).
According to Variety's sources, Williams is set to play a district attorney and possible love interest of Harvey's and while Sony had "no comment on the casting", we do know that Riz Ahmed will be joining them under the watching eye of 'Zombieland' and 'Gangster Squad' director Ruben Fleischer.
Marvel's Kevin Feige has previously stated for the record that Spider-Man will not appear in this 'Venom', and that the film will stand on its own.
2002 'Spider-Man' writer Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner ('The Dark Tower') will write the script, with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing the movie, along with Amy Pascal.
Fingers crossed they take the best of Topher Grace's Venom from Sam Raimi’s 'Spider-Man 3' and none of the emo-Tobey Maguire Venom.
'Venom' is set for release in cinemas on October 5th, 2018.
