If you're a fan of cheesy '80s action and belting soundtracks, Flash Gordon is a must-see for so many reasons.

There's the universally hammy acting by Max von Sydow, Timothy Dalton, Brian Blessed and Sam Jones, Queen's incredible music, the ridiculous dialgoue - and all of it is just a perfect time capsule of how desperate studios were to try and capitalise on the frenzy of Star Wars. Anyway, since then, Flash Gordon's become a camp classic and a reboot has been mooted for many years - with none other than Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn eager to take a stab at it.

However, in a recent interview with Collider, Vaughn threw doubt over the project - but said that he's still working on it. "For me, the only problem with Flash Gordon is Guardians (of the Galaxy) kind of stole what I would have liked to have done with it. You’ve got Star Wars, you’ve got Guardians, so you’ve got to have your own space opera, but you have to find something that can survive among these two very, very great franchises.”

It makes sense, because the self-aware tone of Guardians Of The Galaxy is exactly the sort of thing Flash Gordon could use. Not only that, there's the fact that Flash Gordon was made in direct response to Star Wars - which, in itself, is ironic as George Lucas originally wanted to make a Flash Gordon movie but couldn't afford the rights to the character.

Anyway, the point is that you won't be seeing a Flash Gordon remake any time soon. Too bad, but we'll always have moments like this.
