His career resurgence has been the stuff of legend.

He's gone from starring in crappy rom-coms to an Oscar for his incredible performance as Ron Woodruff in 2013's Dallas Buyers Club. However, there's one thing McConaughey HASN'T done.

A superhero movie. That may change, however.

In a recent interview, McConaughey revealed that he's been offered several lucrative roles in both the Marvel AND DC Comics universes.

"I’ve read some Marvel and DC scripts and I’ve talked about working with them on some scripts, none of which I’ll share with with you what they are - or were. Yeah, I’ve circled some of those. Nothing has been right for me yet. But I’m sure open to it."

McConaughey's latest film, Sea of Trees, didn't exactly receive a rapturous welcome at Cannes, however he's optimistic nonetheless about its chances at next year's Oscars.

As for why he hasn't signed on, it seems fairly simple. Money, time and interest.

"I look at the script. Is the opportunity exciting? Is the money that comes with it exciting? Sure. Is it the possibility of going, “Hey you can get on a train and it can be a franchise and you could do 3, 4, 5, and have a great time as some kind of superhero or anti-hero.” But I would also look at something like that and say, 'Hey, in success that means you are on the train for a while.' ”

McConaughey also spoke about the upcoming sequel to Magic Mike and why he decided not to return. " I didn’t see how he would or should return. I never could crack that nut."

PHRASING.

Anyway, McConaughey in a comic-book movie. That's a thing. So, let's talk potential roles he could play.

Back when Christopher Nolan was in charge of Batman, we could have definitely seen McConaughey as a wiry, deranged Edward Nygma / Riddler or, better still, as Dr. Hugo Strange.

Who do you think he could play? Sound off in the comments!
