Matt Damon already has an Oscar in his wall cabinet from co-writing Good Will Hunting with Ben Affleck, but it looks like he's clearing out space for another with his latest project.

Variety reports that Damon is now set to play Robert F. Kennedy in a biopic on the politician's life and career. The film, titled RFK, will be directed by Nikolaj Arcel, who previously arthouse hit A Royal Affair with Mads Mikkelsen and Alicia Vikander, and more recently the not-at-all-ropey-looking adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower.

There have been previous films made about Robert Kennedy, most notably Emilio Estevez's Bobby in 2006, however RFK will be the first major film to tackle the subject matter in greater detail than before. Arcel will co-write the screenplay with Rasmus Heisterberg, who previously worked with Arcel on A Royal Affair and the screenplay for the original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo adaptation.

No release date has been set for RFK, but expect this to be a major Oscar contender when it does eventually make its way to the cinema.
