Liza Minnelli, daughter to the late actress Judy Garland, has said that she never approved the upcoming biopic ‘Judy’, which is based on the life of her mother and stars Renee Zellweger in the title role.

The actress took to Facebook to voice her disapproval of the project after a story was published by Radar Online which indicated that she had.

The story, which has since been deleted, alleged that an “insider” claimed that Minnelli and Zellweger had bonded on the set of ‘Judy’.

It claimed that Minnelli and Zellweger had become the “best of friends” and talked about Garland for “hours.”

Radar’s “insider” alleged: “Everyone kind of expected Liza to explode after this casting but she sees Renee has the strength and frailty to play Judy.”

A few hours after the Radar piece was published, Minnelli shared a link to it on her Facebook page and wrote: “I have never met nor spoken to Renee Zellweger... I don’t know how these stories get started, but I do not approve nor sanction the upcoming film about Judy Garland in any way. Any reports to the contrary are 100% Fiction.”

Ooof.

A first look pic of Zellweger in the role of Judy Garland was shared last March.

Irish actress Gemma-Leah Devereux has been cast in the role of Liza Minnelli.

She can currently be seen opposite Tom Vaughan Lawlor in the film ‘Citizen Lane.’
