The cast for ‘Little Women’ keeps getting better and better. It has now been announced by THR that Laura Dern, renowned for her role in ‘Jurassic Park’, and more recently ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ and ‘Big Little Lies’, is in talks to join the film.

As previously announced, the movie will be the latest feature from Greta Gerwig, the writer-director of ‘Lady Bird’, who will be reunited with her stars from the coming-of-age film, Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet.

The classic novel is written by Louisa May Alcott and follows the lives of four sisters living in post-Civil War America.

Other big names in the cast include Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Florence Pugh of ‘Lady Macbeth’ fame.

Ronan is said to be playing the lead role of Jo March while Chalamet will play Laurie. Stone and Pugh are reportedly playing Jo’s sisters, Meg and Amy, with star of ‘Sharp Objects’ Eliza Scanlen in talks to play Beth. No word on what character Dern will be playing but it is believed she will play the matriarch of the household, Marmee, while Streep plays Aunt March.

Gerwig’s take has been described as a “retelling”, which could indicate she’s straying from the source material such as giving it a modern-day setting.

Sony’s Columbia Pictures will release the film on Christmas Day 2019.
