Awards favorite and critic darling Lady Bird (check out our five-star review) has had a great opening weekend at the box office in Ireland.

The Saoirse Ronan starrer grossed €327k over the weekend, giving it a 160% lead over I, Tonya, the other big release of the week.

Lady Bird delivered a 31% share of the total UKI box office and had the second highest screen average of €4,412 (across 74 screens).

Five of the top ten UK and Ireland sites were based in Ireland, with the number 1 site being the recently opened Stella Theatre Dublin. From next Friday, Universal Pictures, responding to demand, plans to expand showings to include an additional 18 sites, bringing the total number of cinemas playing Lady Bird to 92.

Lady Bird is nominated for six Academy Awards at this year’s Oscars ceremony, which takes place this Sunday. It received nods for Best Picture, Best Director for Greta Gerwig, Best Actress for Saoirse Ronan, Best Supporting Actress for Laurie Metcalfe, and Best Original Screenplay for Gerwig.
