Kellan Lutz says the boredom he experienced while shooting the 'Twilight' movies inspired him to work on his toned physique.

The 28-year-old actor began working on his buff body while filming the vampire franchise because he and his castmates, which included Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, had to stay in their rented apartments on location to avoid obsessed fans.

Kellan - who played bloodsucker Emmett Cullen - told Men's Health magazine: 'I was bored. They put us in these mall apartment complexes - the fans and paparazzi were outside the whole time. So I bunkered down in the gym; it was my escape.'

The Hollywood hunk also revealed that his subsequent role in 2011's 'Immortals' - in which he played Poseidon - changed his approach to eating and he would eat regularly for fuel whilst filming.

He added: 'For 'Immortals', we all had dieticians. Every hour they'd hand you eight almonds or a plate of spinach.'

However, Kellan admits his eating habits often make him a nuisance for staff when ordering food in a restaurant:

He explained: 'Just ask if they have salmon and avocado and if they mind throwing together a salad for you. It's being deliberately ignorant, but it works.'

Kellan is currently starring in 'The Legend Of Hercules' which will go head to head with Dwayne Johnson's rival movie 'Hercules: The Thracian Wars', which is released this summer.
