Although it didn't live up to the huge expectations set down by The Dark Knight, it's fair to say that The Dark Knight Rises was a beautiful ending to arguably the greatest comic-book movie series so far.

It hit all the right notes, wrapped the story up in an honest and convincing way and rounded out the central premise of the film - that Batman was more than a man, he was an ideal. Of course, the nitpicking a-holes of The Internet couldn't let it go and, sure enough, the popular opinion is that The Dark Knight Rises had a bad ending.

Well, folks, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is here to defend it. In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Gordon-Levitt rightfully pointed out the film was the end of the series and there was a beauty in that fact. "I know we're all used to the sort of Marvel movies, which are just kind of endless series. They don't really have a beginning, middle, and end."

"But I think Nolan very much thought of that movie as a conclusion, and there's a theme that runs through all three of those movies that begins in the first movie, runs through the second movie and it concludes in that moment where he says that Batman is more than a man, Batman is a symbol. And so to have another man other than Bruce Wayne kind of becoming Batman at the end of that trilogy, I think that's the perfect ending to that story."

EXACTLY, JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT. EXACTLY. Why people knock The Dark Knight Rises and its ending when you've got Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice out there in the world is beyond maddening.

What did you think of The Dark Knight Rises? Was the ending good? Let us know in the comments!
