Back when we interviewed Keanu Reeves for John Wick's European release, there were already murmurings about a sequel for the smash-hit actioner.

Reeves told us that there's definitely hope for a sequel, but that the story and character was the key. Directors David Leitch and Chad Stohelski both echoed Reeves' comments in a more recent interview, saying that they "have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original. It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character."

"If there’s great action but you have a character that no one likes and doesn’t have charisma you’re not going to watch it. Look at any great action star, whether it’s Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson or Robert Downey Jr., pick a name, you love the guy first. Good action, bad action, you just love them in action. So we want to make sure we have a story and a character that everybody loves and then we’ll dress it with action that we promise will be awesome."

It's understood that the sequel to John Wick begins shooting this Fall, or in our language, Autumn - which is, essentially, next month. John Wick has been the biggest thing on Reeves' career for quite some time, what with the Eli Roth-directed erotic thriller Knock, Knock failing to deliver for audiences.

The question now is whether or not they can make an interesting sequel to John Wick. Considering David Leitch and Chad Stohelski were reportedly getting offers to join the DC Cinematic Universe as directors, it's clear that they're in huge demand. However, the fact that they're coming back to a John Wick sequel so soon has us a bit reticent. What made John Wick work so well was how self-contained and direct it was.

Trying to stretch that out may not work as well as you'd think, but we're eager to see how they go with it. In the meantime, let's all remind ourselves how awesome John Wick was.
