That’s probably that, then.

When Finn was spotted holding Luke’s lightsaber in Star Wars: The Force Awakens speculation was rife that he may be a Jedi. Even when it turned out he was only holding it in his attempt to fight Kylo Ren, the rumours wouldn’t go away. Since then fans have been hunting for any sign that he will show some connection to the force in the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Boyega, it would appear, has now thrown cold water on those theories in an interview with Digital Spy. Here’s what he had to say on whether he would like to be a Jedi:

“Would I like to be a Jedi? I think it would be more interesting if they had more than one person be a Jedi — but I think that that is the one of the unspoken laws of Star Wars. They only have one who has to go away and train. […] I hope it takes an interesting turn; not in terms of being a Jedi, but there are loads more stronger characters in the Star Wars universe that can go up against Jedi and they don’t necessarily have to be a Jedi. […] I would like to explore that more; the whole Boba Fett vibe. I would like to explore that for Finn, but who knows?”

Unless he’s purposefully throwing people off the scent, that would seem to put the theory to bed. He wouldn’t be trolling us? Would he?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in cinemas on December 15th.
