The nominations for the prestigious Rising Star Award at next month's BAFTAs have been announced.

The award recognises up and coming talent within the film industry and previous winners have included Shia LaBouef, James McAvoy, Eva Green and Tom Hardy.

John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Brie Larson (Room), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades Of Grey), Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) and Bel Powley (Diary Of A Teenage Girl).

Brie Larson, who was excellent in Lenny Abrahamson's Room (and may well find herself getting a Best Actress nod as well) will be a strong contender here but it's hard to look past Boyega who was so funny and charismatic in what looks set to be the biggest movie of all time. Plus he's best friends with Harrison Ford so that's got to have some pull with the judges.

Check back for the full list of nominations on Friday, ahead of the full glitzy ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London on February 14.
