Jeremy Renner Talks To Marvel About Hawkeye
27 November 2009
The brilliant Jeremy Renner, who last appeared in one of the films of the year, The Hurt Locker (those of you that have been voting it into last place in our film of the year awards should be ashamed of yourselves), has been speaking to Empire Magazine about big franchises. More specifically, the role of Hawkeye in the proposed Avengers movie, that already has its cast fairly set; Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, while Ed Norton may or may not return as The Hulk.
"I don’t know if I’d be right for Captain America,” said the actor, who was linked with the role after fanboys approved of him. "I met with the Marvel guys, actually, but we didn’t talk about Captain America. But one of the writers, Zak Penn, we’ve become friends over time and he was thinking maybe Hawkeye could be interesting. He sounds like an interesting character."
Renner was also in line to play Mad Max in a new film in the franchise from George Miller, but has apparently lost out to Tom Hardy. And he's extremely gracious about the whole thing, "I’m just happy to get considered for big franchise roles like that," he said. "I’m not doing the casting. If they see me that way, right on. If they don’t, I’m ok with it."
There's a full interview with him in this month's Empire.
