Jared Leto, frontman of 30 Seconds to Mars and well regarded actor has slammed Michael Fassbender and Joaquin Phoenix for their disinterest in Oscar campaigns.
The Huffington Post, along with many others, reckon Leto is one of the front runners for a Best Actor nomination following his impressive performance as a transgender woman battling with Aids in Dallas Buyers Club. Leto wants that nominee (it would be his first) and he's not afraid to campaign for it, interview for it, the works.
When asked by the Huffington Post about his likely competition, Leto slammed the likes of Fassbender and Phoenix who complain about such campaigning.
Here's what the 41 year old star had to say to Huff Post's Ricky Camilleri:
“They had done it before, so I guess they have every right to complain about it, but I think it’s kind of ridiculous to complain about celebrating art and creativity and your peers... It’s certainly better than not celebrating each other. I’ve been a part of a lot of films where we all had high hopes and things just didn’t turn out the way you had expected or dreamed that they would. When they do turn out in a way that works, and people celebrate, I think it’s a wonderful thing to acknowledge that. This hasn’t been anything but a joy so far.”
Are Fassbender and Phoenix being a bit snobby about the whole thing? Shouldn't they be more grateful to be in the race? Is Leto right here?
