As we reported this time last month, the future of cinemas could be about to be changed forever.

Sean Parker, who previously turned the music industry on its head with Napster, is now out stumping for Screening Room, a streaming service akin to Netflix that will put on-release films in your television for the princely sum of $50.00 per film. The service has some hefty backers, with Steven Spielberg, JJ Abrams, Ron Howard and Peter Jackson all backing the service.

At this year's CinemaCon, JJ Abrams took on a room of cinema chains and defended the service, saying that the industry needs to adapt. "We need to do everything we can in this age of piracy, digital technology and disruption to be thoughtful partners in the evolution of this medium... We have to adapt. It’s going to be required of all of us. We need to meet that challenge with excitement, and create solutions - not fear."

"As the world evolves, all of us are evolving with it,” said Abrams. "We have to adapt."

Screening Room, as the service is known, is still a long way away from becoming a reality and, so far, it's not yet known how the studios themselves are taking to the idea. Theatre chains in the US are, obviously, hugely against the idea - even after Sean Parker offered to cut them into the lucrative market by offering them $20 on every film sold.
