Time for all you film students and wannabe movie-makers to mask some jealousy with a shallow smile and a forced “fair play”, because Warner Bros. Ireland have created a dream film scholarship, but they’ve already given it away.

And just in case you’re about to check your e-mails on the off chance, you haven’t won. No, that prize has been awarded to IADT student Daniel Kelly.

The Belfast native is currently in the middle of his MA in Screenwriting at the National Film School, and will now be provided with postgraduate funding support, as well as earning a paid work placement with the company, access to screenings, and mentoring support from Warner Bros. executives.

Not bad, I suppose there’s worse things than being given money, a work placement and a leg up in your industry before you’ve even left college.

Warner Bros. President & Managing Director on this side of the water, Josh Berger CBE, said: “Awarding our first scholarship to a student in Ireland demonstrates our desire to support the next generation of talent in the countries in which we operate. Selected for his potential and commitment to joining the industry, Daniel will now have the funding to develop his skills and gain vital experience that we hope will equip him for his future career.”

We’re sure it will, and best of luck to Daniel, on behalf of the rest of Ireland, “fair play”.
