Extremely sad news this morning as it has been announced that Irish filmmaker Simon Fitzmaurice passed away yesterday. He was 43.

Fitzmaurice was the subject of the recent documentary 'It's Not Yet Dark', based on his memoir about his relationship with his wife Ruth, his children, his career and his struggle with Motor Neurone Disease.

The Greystones-born writer and director was diagnosed with MND in 2008 and was given four years to live, yet continued to work and his debut feature film 'My Name is Emily' was released in 2015.

'It's Not Yet Dark', narrated by Colin Farrell, won rave reviews upon its recent release.

He is survived by his wife Ruth and their five children.
