In completely unsurprising news, Star Wars: The Last Jedi dominated the Irish box office this weekend. It made €1.2m more than its nearest competitor, Daddy's Home 2, bringing in an average of €17,660 per location. These figures give The Last Jedi a better opening weekend total than last year's Rogue One, but it didn't perform as well as The Force Awakens which broke Irish Box Office records back in 2015. Beauty and the Beast still holds onto the record for biggest opening weekend of 2017, it earned €2.2m its first weekend of release.

The week's other new release, Ferdinand, did reasonably well, bringing in €100,000. Despite receiving mixed reviews, it provided welcome counter programming for those too young to see Star Wars.

Elsewhere in Top 10, Paddington 2, Murder on The Orient Express and Thor: Ragnarok continue to show impressive longevity. They remain in the charts in their 6th, 7th and 8th weeks of release respectively.
