It's only September, but  in the wake of the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, awards speculation has already kicked into gear and once again Ireland is represented in the conversation.

The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg has published his early thoughts on the awards race and has listed Negga among the frontrunners for the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Loving.

Loving tells the true story of Mildred and Richard Loving, the plaintiffs in a landmark 1967 case which ruled that the state of Virginia's laws prohibiting interracial marriages were unconstitutional. The film is directed by Jeff Nichols' who previously helmed the excellent Mud and Midnight Special.

Should Negga receive a nomination for Best Actress it would cap a terrific year for the Limerick native which also saw her star in AMC's Preacher.

Feinberg's predictions also list Armagh's Seamus McGarvey among the frontrunners for Best Cinematography. McGarvey shot Nocturnal Animals, the latest feature from fashion designer Tom Ford which stars Emma Stone and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Loving will be released in Irish cinemas February 3rd, 2017.
