Ahead of its release here in Ireland (you can catch the film in theatres from this Friday, July 13th), ‘Incredibles 2’ continues to smash domestic box office records. It is now the highest grossing animated film in the US ever.

After four weeks in the box office, ‘Incredibles 2’ has become the first animated film in history to surpass the $500m milestone in the US.

So far, it has grossed $773m globally.

The title of biggest animated movie of all time was previously held by a fellow Disney Pixar sequel, ‘Finding Dory.’

As previously reported, ‘Incredibles 2’ also had the biggest opening weekend ever for an animated movie. Again it was ‘Finding Dory’ that got ousted from the top spot.

Trish Long, Vice President & General Manger of the Walt Disney Studios (Ireland) said: “We are delighted that ‘Incredibles 2’ has broken the record to become the biggest animated film of all time in the US. This is a truly remarkable achievement and we are all thrilled for director Brad Bird and producers Nicole Grindle and John Walker who kindly visited Dublin so recently to help launch the movie and our congrats also to the amazing teams at Pixar who created such a gem.

“While some super weather abounds in Ireland - we cannot wait for Irish audiences to be able to have a super experience with Disney Pixar’s ‘Incredibles 2’ when the film opens in Irish cinemas this coming Friday.”

The movie sees the return of the superhero family with Helen (voiced by Holly Hunter) turned into an advocate to have superheroes legalised again. Meanwhile, Bob (voiced by Craig T.Nelson) is left at home with Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (Huck Milner) and infant Jack-Jack. It’s a tough transition for everyone, and when a new villain called Screenslaver appears, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L.Jackson) must find a way to save the day - as well as sorting through their personal issues.
