Martin McDonagh debuted as a filmmaker (not including his Oscar-winning short, Six Shooter) nearly ten years ago with In Burges, having previously lit the theatre world up with a series of lauded plays that saw the top actors in the world scrambling to work with him.
McDonagh followed up In Bruges with the broader, fun Seven Psychopaths and is now drawing more praise, and accolades, for his latest opus, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, as it picked up The People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. Past winners have included Oscar winners 12 Years A Slave, The King’s Speech and Slumdog Millionaire.
Three Billboards stars Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell, with McDormand featuring as a woman desperate to find the murderer of her daughter and acting as a constant thorn in the side of Harrelson's Sheriff as a result. The trailer below will give you a better idea of the tone.
The film is scheduled for release here in January.
