But it’s a long way away.

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have announced the release of a Sing sequel for Christmas Day 2020.

Sing, which is out in cinemas now, is set in a city of anthropomorphic animals. A koala theatre owner (played by Matthew McConaughey) hosts a singing competition that will transform the lives of its talented finalists. Its star-studded cast includes Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Hudson and Leslie Jones.

Since its release, Sing has already grossed $429 million worldwide including $250 million domestically.

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have been having continued success of late, between The Secret Life of Pets, which was released last year and grossed $875 million worldwide, and Minions, which was released in 2015 and grossed a whopping $1,159,398,397 worldwide.

Sequels are being planned for these two as well, and the studios announced that Minions 2 has been moved up one week to July 3rd 2020 from July 10th 2020, while The Secret Life of Pets 2 has been pushed back a year, from July 13th 2018 to July 3rd 2019.
