What Richard Did was the big winner at the 10th annual IFTAs. Lenny Abrahamson’s little picture that could scooped an amazing five awards, including the gongs for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Script. (For your telly winners head yonder!)
Our old pal turned Transformers star Jack Reynor claimed the award for Best Actor, taking time to thank his little brother and sister and melting our hearts even further in the process. Lenny Abrahamson spoke like a proud father as he collected the gong for Best Director, revealing that he had in fact given Jack $60 when he headed off to the US of A, and was certainly hoping he’d get it back now.
Ruth Bradley got the nod for Best Actress but wasn’t on hand to pick it up: Jamie Dornan accepted on her behalf with a rather... err.. interesting speech (we’ll get to that later). Domhnall Gleeson was delighted and rather nervous on stage, giving a special shout out to fellow redhead David Wilmot as he took home Best Supporting Actor for Anna Karenina, while Bríd Brennan scooped Best Supporting Actress for her role in Shadow Dancer.
International winners included Ben Affleck’s Argo (Best Film), Best Actor for Daniel-Day Lewis (Lincoln) and Best Actress for Marion Cotillard (Rust and Bone).
But the night well and truly belonged to ‘Richard’: looks like we’ll never forget what he, Lenny Abrahamson and Jack Reynor did.
