Between Wonder Woman, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it’s clear that superheroes were the big winners at the box office this summer.

Spider-Man: Homecoming, which saw Tom Holland take on Spidey aka Peter Parker, was a critical success and managed to bank $738 million worldwide at the BO.

After it has already been announced that there will not only be one but two sequels to the movie back in June, now there’s good news again as screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who wrote the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios hit, are in final negotiations to pen the script for its follow-up.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news, “Sony and Marvel are hoping to keep many of the creative elements of Homecoming together and are already in talks to have Jon Watts return to the director’s chair.” And, of course, Holland will return as the teen hero.

Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is scheduled for release on July 5th 2019. In the meantime, you can see Holland reprise Spider-Man in Avengers: Infinity War, which is released on April 27th 2018. Still a long wait but we’ll take it.
