As the Oscars kick off later tonight, just about everyone's made their predictions as to who will win. (You can read ours here, if you fancy)

There's the usual markers for how people predict the outcome - past trends, critic reviews, audience reaction - and that's exactly what an artificial intelligence has used to predict the potential Oscar winners for tonight.

Unanimous AI used an algorithm which, according to its creator Dana Hershman, "makes it possible for users to leverage their natural human intuitions, emotions, and sensibilities to come to conclusions on just any topic in 30 seconds or less."

The AI pulled its analysis from 50 participants with varying degrees of knowledge on the Oscar race, with the results showing that it had more or less the same outcome as those who've spent years analysing trends and crunching data on the subject.

Essentially, it's like crowdsourcing an opinion and funnelling it through a computer program. So, what did it pick? No surprises, really. The AI predicted that DiCaprio would win Best Actor, Brie Larson would win Best Actress, Sylvester Stallone and Kate Winslet win for in the Supporting categories whilst Alejandro G. Innaritu and The Revenant won for Best Director and Best Picture respectively.

As we said, no surprises. We'll know whether the AI and ourselves were right later tonight. We'll have a full round-up and all the coverage first thing tomorrow morning.
