The awards season has really kicked into gear today with the release of the nominations for the 2017 Golden Globe Awards.

Colin Farrell, Ruth Negga, and Sing Street are flying the flag for Ireland. Farrell was nominated in the Best Actor in a Comedy Film category for his role in The Lobster while Negga was nominated in the Best Actress for a Drama Film category for her performance in Loving.

There was a surprise nomination for Sing Street with John Carney's film being recognised in the Best Comedy/Musical category. There were few surprises elsewhere, with the likes of Arrival, Nocturnal Animals, Hell or High Water, La La Land and Manchester by the Sea all getting nods in various categories.
