There’s been a whole heap of news coming from the San Diego Comic Con, and superhero movie fans should be delighted to hear developments on the latest.

The first black superhero in mainstream comics, Black Panther will be directed by Ryan Coogler, who helmed the award-winning Fruitvale Station and Rocky reboot Creed.

Michael B. Jordan, who Coogler directed in both features, was confirmed to be playing the role of Erik Killmonger, an expert fighter and nemesis of Black Panther.

Chadwick Boseman will reprise his character Black Panther for the new film, having already appeared in the role earlier this year in Captain America Civil War. Boseman also shared a picture of the Black Panther team on the day:

The panel, which was held over the weekend, also confirmed the casting of Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o and Walking Dead Star Danai Gurira.

Nyong'o’s character will be Nakia, a member of T'Challa's personal bodyguard unit, the Dora Milaje. Gurira will play Okoye, the head of the Dora Milaje.

Boseman, Jordan, Gurira and Nyong'o were all present on the panel, with the latter party revealing more plot details than perhaps she should have.

She recently revealed to EW: ‘The story is that Black Panther’s leadership is being threatened by two foes that come together, and so Black Panther gets the help of the CIA and the Dora Milajei to try to defeat the enemy.'

The actress then said: ‘Oh dear. Someone is going to fire me shortly. I have to shut up now.’

Well, we very much doubt that and in any case, we forgive you Lupita.

Black Panther is set for release in 2018.
