After Ed Skrein made the unprecedented move to step down from a role over a whitewashing controversy, Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen might have found its replacement in the most fortuitous way possible.

THR reports that Daniel Dae-Kim is set to take over Skrein's role as Major Daimio, a shapeshifting Japanese-American soldier who worked with Hellboy in the comic book series by Mike Mignola. Dae-Kim recently made headlines over a similar issue, in which he left Hawaii Five-0 over a pay gap between himself and white cast members of the show.

Lionsgate have yet to confirm Dae-Kim's casting, but did release a statement after Skrein's exit that seemed to suggest they were on the hunt for an Asian-American actor instead. Since exiting Hawaii Five-0, Dae-Kim's been pretty open about his situation with the show and why he felt he had to leave.

Given as well as how audiences are rejecting and refusing to accept whitewashing in film and television, and the fact that Dae Kim's a talented actor, it all makes sense for him to be cast in the role.

No release date has been set for Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen.
