We asked pretty much everyone here in entertainment towers who they thought could play Elton John in a biopic, and not a single member of the team said Tom Hardy, so we think it's safe to say we found it rather amusing to hear that he was the new hot favourite for the 'Rocketman' biopic.

As per Hitfix, Justin Timberlake (the previous favourite) is pretty much a thing of the past, because both Elton and and director Michael Gracey are keen to get Dark Knight Rises villain Hardy on board. We're hearing that the film is a "a biographical musical fantasy that weaves together the life of Elton John and his music", so it would certainly be a bit of a change of direction for the heartthrob.

War Horse screenwriter Lee Hall has penned the adaptation, which will chart Reg Dwight's (yes, that is Elton's real name) rise to fame, and delve into the songwriting partnership he forged with Bernie Taupin. We're still not too sure what to make of this one, but sure we'd never say no to a bit of Tom Hardy now, would we? He's a "Rock-it man" if ever we saw one. Take it away William...
