A new report by The New Yorker has revealed that as far back as 2016, Harvey Weinstein was actively working to discredit stories about his sexual misconduct - and hired private investigators and ex-Mossad agents to help him.
A lengthy investigation by Ronan Farrow has revealed that Weinstein employed the services of Black Cube, which actively promotes itself as "a select group of veterans from the Israeli elite intelligence units." As well as this, Farrow's investigation revealed that Weinstein hired freelance journalists to interview accusers, such as Rose MacGowan and Annabella Sciorra, and then report these interviews back to Weinstein.
In one instance in the report, Rose MacGowan was contacted by a representative from a financial company based in London who wanted to bankroll her production company and discuss her own personal dealings with Weinstein and other men in Hollywood. The woman, it was later revealed, was hired by Black Cube for the express purposes of investigating MacGowan and suppressing her accusations.
For his part, Weinstein - through his spokesperson - has denied that he was involved in suppressing any of the stories coming forward. Black Cube, meanwhile, has refused to discuss specific details regarding Harvey Weinstein.
