Harvey Weinstein has become the second person in history to be expelled from AMPAS, the governing body of the annual Academy Awards - otherwise known as the Oscars.

In a statement delivered to media just an hour ago, AMPAS said that the decision was to taken "not simply to separate ourselves from someone who does not merit the respect of his colleagues but also to send a message that the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexually predatory behavior and workplace harassment in our industry is over."

"What’s at issue here is a deeply troubling problem that has no place in our society. The Board continues to work to establish ethical standards of conduct that all Academy members will be expected to exemplify.”

In an interview with THR earlier today, Harvey Weinstein's brother and fellow producer Bob Weinstein said that AMPAS should seriously consider expelling him, and went on to say that he hoped his brother "gets the justice he deserves."

Harvey Weinstein's representatives have yet to make an official comment. The only other person who was expelled from AMPAS was Carmine Caridi, who was passing Academy screeners to one of the internet's most notorious pirates.
