Greengrass And Damon Off Fourth Bourne
02 December 2009
Paul Greengrass has officially left the proposed fourth Bourne film as director, and star Matt Damon has just followed him, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Damon spoke of THR blogger Roger Friedman at the premiere of his latest film; the Clint Eastwood helmed Invictus, and spewed: "I'm waiting for Paul" before adding, "And he’ll come back when there’s a script."
This whole hoopla started when Universal commissioned another script, as well as the George Nolfi's screenplay, that Damon and Greengrass were developing. This pissed Greengrass off, and himself and Damon are good mates, so they both bolted.
Now some sources are putting the budget of the next Greengrass/Damon project, Green Zone, at a staggering $150 million. Funded by Universal, on the condition that they'd then go and do a fourth Bourne picture, the budget apparently ballooned out of control during production. How much of that is true I don't know, but one is certain; they may be able to do a fourth Bourne without Greengrass, but they can't without Damon.
Expect this one to be resolved sooner rather than later.
