We couldn't quite believe it when he didn't pop up among the contenders for Best Director at the Oscars and now he's won the Critic's Choice and Golden Globe awards for Argo we're even more sure he should have been there. But then again. we're pretty sure that isn't weighing too heavily on Ben Affleck's mind right now.

The actor turned director celebrated a double whammy as his Iran hostage thriller Argo scooped the awards for Best Drama AND Best Director. Affleck's little film toppled the likes of awards-season favourite Lincoln to come out on top.

Ben took to the stage to pick up his prizes and made no bones about thanking his wife, Jennifer Garner, in his acceptance speech: "I want to thank my wife who is the reason why I'm standing here," he said after giving her a kiss and claiming the prize. "I adore you. I love you so much. Thanks for sitting through this. You are my everything. Thank you," he added.

Affleck tried to squeeze just about everyone into his quick-fire speech, including fellow nominees Steven Spielberg, Ang Lee, Kathryn Bigelow and Quentin Tarantino. "Look, I don't care what the award is. When they put your name next to the names she just read off, it's an extraordinary thing in your life," he said, alluding to the Oscars snub.

Luckily enough his missus had time to thank the few people he forgot when she presented an award after her husband's win. D'awww, Ben and Jen. Stop being so adorable.
