Made for just $4.5M, and with a marketing budget of $30M, Jordan Peele’s directorial debut pulled in an incredible $252M worldwide. That’s a profit of 630%.

The original horror starred Daniel Kaluuya who played an African-American visiting his white girlfriend’s apparently liberal parents for the first time. As you might expect, things don’t go to plan.

Revenue was boosted by word of mouth and excellent reviews. It’s currently at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The highest grossing movies of 2017 to date are Beauty and the Beast and The Fate of the Furious who both raked in approximately $1.2 billion.
