The director of 'Pretty Woman', 'Runaway Bride', 'The Princess Diaries' died from "complications of pneumonia following a stroke at a hospital in Burbank, Calif.," his representative said in a statement.

The legendary director was responsible for 'Beaches' and 'Overboard', and more recently the trio of star-packed but less well-received 'Valentine’s Day', 'New Year's Eve' and 'Mother's Day', began his career writing for television and created hit shows 'Happy Days', 'Mork and Mindy' and 'Laverne and Shirley' amongst many others, kickstarting the careers of some of Hollywood's A-list for decades.

Stars have been remembering since his passing, with most taking to social media to express their sadness at his passing.

And if anything, Marshall will be remembered for this scene which changed the context of Roy Orbison's 'Pretty Woman' forever.
