By Grabthar's Hammer, this is damn good news.

As we reported a few months ago, a Galaxy Quest TV spinoff has been in the works for quite some time with Paramount eager to exploit their back catalogue. Today, it's confirmed that Amazon will produce a Galaxy Quest TV series for their VOD service.

The sci-fi comedy, which was essentially a pi**-take of Star Trek, became a cult hit when it was originally released in 1999. Many consider it to be an underrated classic and something that's ripe for a TV series adaptation.

There's more - Dean Parisot and Robert Gordon, who directed and wrote the original movie respectively, will be back as producers and serving as director and writer for a number of episodes.

Casting wise, it's still early days yet. It's unlikely that Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell or Sigourney Weaver would sign on for a TV series, however anything's possible. They could even go with a new cast altogether.

Our choice? Will Arnett as the Captain. Imagine GOB Bluth piloting a spaceship. It'd be incredible.

As with previous Amazon TV series, there'll be a pilot that will be freely available and based on the strength and reaction of that, a full series will be hopefully commissioned.

Sadly for us, Amazon TV isn't yet available in Ireland - but there's talk of the service launching before the end of the year.

In the meantime, let's watch YouTube clips of Galaxy Quest because GALAXY QUEST IS AMAZING.
